The Lovely Bones ( Book Review and Movie trailer)
I am officially reading this book right now ... and although I haven't finished it yet , so far it proves to be a work of art . I am convinced that Alice Sebold the writer of "The Lovely Bones" is a poet disguised as an author . Her work is illuminating , steadfast and full of so much hope and heart one can barely take it . ( it brings shivers and chills to my body as I read each page ) . Read this book with the need to go on a long and luminous journey thru the lives of strangers you will learn to love and feel great sorrow for .
I can only hope that the movie does the book some justice !!

DIARY ENTRY : "COLOGNE REVIEW" JOHN VARVATOS "ARTISAN"
I spent the night before up very late watching that Woody Allen Film " Vicki Christina Barcelona ". So when I finally woke up the next morning .. ( clears throat) I mean this afternoon feeling like high hell , and he suggested getting drinks and going to Sephora. I couldn't think of a more splendid was to spend the evening . Three screwdrivers and one rum and coke later , I was on my way to the local Sephora . Let this be a bit of a cautionary tale my friends , don't ever go to smell perfume/ cologne drunk ! While crossing the street to get inside of the store I shrieked "oh my god we made it to the promise land " . Running in my heels like a lazy hooker I bust threw the doors only to be greated by a faboulous and might I say very helpful gay man dressed in all black . Needless to say I pulled my shit togethere as qiuck as I could . I was also happy my makeup had been carefully applied and the outfit was up to par unlike the chic begger look I was rocking earlier . You see it's one thing to be drunk in Sephora and its another thing to be drunk and looking a hot mess in Sephora while a stylish gay man shows you the "new products " . I'm sure I reeked of booze . I started out in the colgne section quickly siffting thru each fragrence complaing like a spoiled 50's socialite that something smelled "god awful " and "like shit " . After smelling several awful "vodka vomit" inducing scents I arrived at one that was worth a review . It is " Artisan by John Varvatos " . I'd like to say at first spray Artisan intersted me and repelled me at the same time . It smelled like this woman's purse that use to sit next to me and my mother in church every sunday . I would be half asleep ( as a result of staying up the night before playing sonic the hedge hog ) and my mom would pop me in theback of my head and say "Wake up , don't you embarrass me " . I would sluggisly move around and the woman sitting next to me would open up her beaten leather purse and offer me a mint , that looked like it had been sitting in the darkest 
deepest depths of her purse for centuries . I would take it put it in my mouth and savor it . And so I coined the phrase "Church mints " . And that is exactly what Artisan intially smelled like . It is neither boring nor inviting . But it has an awful "throwback smell" that I just didn't care for in the beggining . But I nabbed a 
sample any ways because you never know how a scent my change ( and I'm happy I did) . So now it is about 1 am , and I am smelling Mr. Varavato's latest concoction again , this time after it has settled and it's turned into what I could only decribe as the reminesinse of a scent that a lover would leave behind on shuffled bed sheets after they have left . Maybe they have left money on the dresser maybe they havan't , but with this scent one can only hope that they return . John Varvatos "Artisan" is one word "Distinct" . And the bottle is a keeper to it looks like something a tour guide for the congo river would keep his booze in . . So if you can get past the Minty mess that happens in the beggining of this fragrance and and have a bit of patience it may just grow on you!

Perfume Facts
So nowadays with modern technology of perfume manufacturing and synthetic aromas, new categories have been created. Categories that can be best described as: 1 - Bright Floral - very popular and meant for almost everyone and all occasions; 2 - Woody - it evokes the forest refreshing smell; 3 - Green - it has a lighter fragrance and is meant for casual wear; 4 - Oceanic - it is very popular among the younger generation; 5 - Spicy Fruit - a good choice for tropical weather or during summer; 6 - Oriental - it is meant for special occasions. Spicy scents.
It is very important the composition of perfumes, because the right combination of scents (as rose, jasmine, cola), modifiers (esters), blenders (linalool, hydroxycitronellol) and fixatives(like resins, wood scents and amber), can provide the unique smell by which brand name perfumes are so famous and desired for. Some famous brand name perfumes are:

Also, preservation of perfumes is of vital significance as it degrades if kept carelessly. Previously all perfumes used to come in open bottles with caps. These bottles kept the fragrance intact for about a year. As it was used, the level of the perfume went down, and it was exposed to oxygen contained in the empty space of the bottle. This eventually changed the perfume`s fragrance. Heat, light, oxygen, and extraneous organic materials, further distorted the fragrance. Thus glass bottles, though extremely decorative, allowed light, and contributed to the degradation of the scent.
It is now a well known fact that light-tight aluminum bottles are best for the preservation of perfumes, especially when they are refrigerated at low temperatures from 3 to 7 degree Celsius. The oxygen contained inside the bottle cannot be removed completely but it can be minimized by the use of rollers instead of open bottles. Further minimization of oxygen exposure can be attained by the use of sprays.
Thus almost all modern day perfume come in spray bottles, which isolate the perfume from mixing with outside oxygen, skin, detritus, and dust, thereby promoting the longevity of the olfactory quality of the perfume.

THE SCENT OF BLUE
A concert in Edinburgh, years ago.
She manages to find a single seat.
Two people sweep past, ushered by the
front of house manager in his dark suit.
He's a famous conductor,
silver haired, sharp featured like some
bird of prey, but smaller than you would
expect, in evening dress.
On his arm a thin woman,
taller than he is, strides with
striking face and hair, a cloud of
grey blonde curls around her head.
Not a young woman but a
diva surely, inhabiting her clothes,
inhabiting her skin with such confidence.
She wants to be like that some day,
longs for self possession.
And she remembers the scent of her,
musky, mysterious, a heavy, night time
scent, like flowers after dark.

What's the Difference ?

The year is 2003 , I am standing on a dimly lit corner in Florence , Italy with my roommate the air is damp and we are waiting for her friend Alex and his new girlfriend . Before we left the house we smoked some hash . We came to the conclusion that no matter where you need to go in
Italy if you smoke some hash before you leave the house you will arrive there in what feels like five minutes . Hash was our own secret "Time Travel Machine " . I am dehydrated , I tilt my head upwards to look at the sun beaming down on me . The giant star in the sky is having no mercy on me today and I curse myself for wearing all black again ( a torn iron maiden tee shirt that an ex - boyfriend got for me , and black tights I got from a street vendor the day before ) . My roommate and I hold hands , we fear that we may get lost in shuffle of all the beauty that is Italy . There are what seems to be beautiful people everywhere . And we are the Americans ...and the truth is you never really feel American until you visit somewhere else . There customs seems so much more flavorful than my own . There is a steadiness in Italy's . One gets the feeling that the Italians know something about "time " that the Americans just don't know , and that whatever it is they know , they have accepted it , even embraced it and managed to seduce it into submission . I have grown tired of waiting and I am considering leaving ..Until "Have you guys been waiting long " Alex says . "No" my roommate says . Standing next to Alex is a thin , very long legged Japanese girl , who looks like a boy who looks like a beautiful girl . She is wearing all black . question while having a forth vodka shot .."What are you wearing" ..she smiled confidently and said "It's called Fahrenheit , it's by Christian Dior.. It's for men .. but I like it anyways ".. Hours later in a dark alley in Italy I would pull her close to me by her waist and softly touch her face , her mouth tasted of alcohol and expensive cigars . While tearing at my clothing she would tell me... while I pulled her hair ,kissing her wet mouth ferociously , passionately that she also uses the after shave...and the damn shampoo ( a girl after my own heart) . I would tell her that I wanted her to come home with me , and she would say "Yes ". While walking back into the bar I would be confronted by a drunk Alex who didn't take to kindly to me tasting the cologne on his girlfriend who smelled like she could be someones boyfriend. I once played pool with a friend of mines who's girlfriend had dumped him ..she also wore "the scent" . After smelling it on me he was reduced to tears .
